Precision optical systems demand components that can accurately control light signals while preserving their polarization characteristics. A new series of 2x2 polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber couplers designed for 1310nm wavelength applications offers both signal distribution accuracy and polarization state integrity during transmission, making them suitable for optical sensing, amplification, and gyroscope applications.
The 2x2 PM fiber couplers utilize advanced PANDA PM fiber technology. This unique design incorporates stress rods around the fiber core to create birefringence effects within the core. The configuration enhances transmission efficiency for light with specific polarization directions, particularly when injected along the slow axis, thereby maximizing polarization extinction ratio (PER).
Available in two performance grades, these couplers offer PER values of either ≥20.0 dB (PN1310 series) or ≥25.0 dB (PNH1310 series), significantly exceeding industry standards. The stress rods parallel to the fiber core precisely control light polarization direction, establishing a foundation for exceptional polarization maintenance.
The couplers provide multiple splitting ratio options including 50:50, 75:25, 90:10, and 99:1 configurations to accommodate various application needs. Their bidirectional functionality allows operation as either splitters or combiners, enhancing system design flexibility. For optimal performance in combining applications, unused output ports should be terminated to absorb potential minor light leakage.
Designed for challenging operational conditions, the couplers maintain stable performance across a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C. While PER may fluctuate with temperature variations, comprehensive temperature cycling test data is available for performance evaluation. The components handle maximum power levels of 1W with connectors or bare fibers, and up to 5W when fiber spliced.
Each coupler undergoes strict testing and verification procedures. Detailed PER measurement processes are documented, with complete test reports including actual results provided for every unit. Sample test reports demonstrate the comprehensive quality control measures implemented during production.
Standard configurations include 2.0 mm narrow key FC/PC and FC/APC connectors with 0.8-meter long Ø900 µm Hytrel® jacketed fiber leads. Custom solutions are available with three-week delivery times, accommodating specific requirements for wavelength, fiber type, coupling ratio, port configuration, axis alignment, and housing options. Each custom unit includes an independent test report.
Beyond 1310nm PM fiber couplers, the product portfolio includes various optical components such as double-clad couplers, single-mode couplers, single-mode PLC splitters, multimode couplers, and wavelength division multiplexers (WDMs), providing complete solutions for optical system requirements.
